A couple weeks ago, we enjoyed a relaxing getaway to the North Georgia mountains. Bobby and I both needed to “unplug,” so we chose a secluded mountain cabin on the Tallulah River with some great hiking nearby. Of course we had to take a couple kitties… Kylo Ren and Gryphon joined us.
As expected, the cabin was secluded in the mountains. So secluded that there was ZERO cell service — there was a landline phone! HA!
Anyway, the Tallulah River ran right in front of the cabin, which was awesome. The cabin even had a screened in porch (aka “Catio”), and a private hiking trail that led to a waterfall. We couldn’t have asked for a better spot!
As usual, Kylo made himself at home as soon as we arrived. He has always been the best traveler.
With this only being Gryphon’s third big trip, he’s still adjusting and learning the ways of the traveling cat life. He’s done fairly well the past couple trips, but this time he was NOT into it. He was great in the car, but as soon as we got to the cabin, he was in hiding. He came out to eat, but other than that, we barely saw him until the next day.
He never truly settled, so we didn’t end up taking him on any hikes. We let him hang in the cabin and get his bearings. He did enjoy the catio though!
Kylo, on the other hand, was in heaven. He went on every hike with us – even when we did two in one day. He had the best time exploring. I think he was especially comfortably because on every hike we did, we didn’t see a single person. We had the trails all to ourselves!
Kylo’s first hike was on the cabin property to the waterfall. It was an uphill climb the whole way, but he went for it! Thankfully it wasn’t a long trail – only about a mile.
Later that day, we went back out for another hike. This second one was a combination of uphill and downhill climbs and led us to a river bed. We had a blast playing on the rocks and exploring the river area.
The next day, we went on a big outing. First, we went to the local music store (being musicians, we always have to check out the local music stores). Kylo stayed in his backpack for that. Afterwards, we found a restaurant with outdoor seating and had a bite to eat. Kylo did pretty well considering he’s not a fan of that kind of outing.
Then we went on a 3.5 mile hike that took us to a mountain overlook called Pinnacle Knob. It was a beautiful view that even Kylo appreciated.
He especially loved exploring all the rocks and fallen trees — those are his favorite.
While we were a bit discouraged at how Gryphon did on the trip, I’m hoping he just wasn’t in the mood. He usually enjoys his outings. Maybe next time he’ll enjoy himself more!
All in all, the trip was a huge success and exactly what we needed. Looking forward to the next one!
Enjoy this video compilation of Kylo on his hikes – including a slow motion video of him jumping across the river!

Dad so wishes he could hike so we could go. I know Einie would want to and so would Rumpy. Thanks for the great video. We hope Gryphon gets more settled in time

What a fun trip for Kylo! Bummer that Gryphon didn’t enjoy himself more. With no internet, I’m afraid my human would have been hiding with him. MOL!

There was wifi! We just didn’t have a cell signal for calls or texts.
