12 Reasons to Adopt a Shelter Cat

Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month: 12 Reasons to Adopt a Shelter Cat!

June is here, which means it is officially Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month! Did you know that over 3 million cats enter animal shelters in the United States EVERY YEAR?! Sadly only a little over 1 million of those cats are actually adopted. That means there are TONS of cats waiting in shelters for their furever home and family.

With all 6 of our kitties being rescues (either adopted from a rescue or off the streets), we are big supporters of adoption. Whether it’s June or October, we think every day is a purrfect day for adopting a shelter cat! In fact, we have 12 really awesome reasons that we think everyone should adopt a cat…

1. Cats always get their chores done.

Hate doing housework? Adopt a cat and you will never have to clean another day in your life!

2. Cats are technologically savvy.

Do you have trouble working all of those techno gadgets out there these days? Cats are computer whizzes and masters of the internet. They can help you blog, web design, or just check your emails.

3. Cats can help get rid of all of that extra food.

Did you have way too much food around your house? Fear not! A cat can help!

4. Cats are musically talented.

Always wanted to learn to play a musical instrument? Cats can teach you to play just about anything. They are always happy to share their expertise in exchange for treats and cuddles.

5. Cats sympathize when you’re feeling down.

Hate Mondays? Cats do too.

6. Cats have really great fashion sense.

Do you sometimes wake up in the morning and not know what to wear? Adopt a cat and you’ll never have that problem again!

7. Cats always seem to find the purrfect spot for sunbathing.

Do you like to get your tan on? Cats are excellent at pointing out all of the best sun puddles in your home.

8. Cats can drive boats!

Unsure of yourself on the high seas? Bring a cat along with you to captain your ship!
*Not advisable unless you have the proper safety wear or life jacket for your cat.

9. They give boxes a purpose.

Have a bunch of empty boxes lying around and not sure what to do with them? Get a cat to fill the void!

10. They are trained nurses.

When you aren’t feeling well, cats always know exactly what to do.

11. They are great spies.

Some excellent reasons to adopt. Mom said she hasn’t ever adopted from a shelter, but she has adopted all her kitties, except me, off the streets mainly and a few who needed homes from humans that didn’t spay. She said when the kitties come to her off the streets she feels she is saving them and that they chose her. Pretty cool in her book.

Those sure are some mighty good reasons to adopt a cat but the best reason is to give the cat a really nice home away from the shelter. The cat will really appreciate that a lot. That was a fun post.

Angel Minko was a kind of rescue…from an awful place where the woman was trying to sell him and his littermates. Petcretary swept him out of there as fast as she could and vowed that if there were any more adverts to ‘sell’ more kittens , that would make her call the authorities. She almost felt compelled to take all of those kittens..but well, back then she was a bit more naive about those things. And thankfully she has not seen that happen…else the lady changed her phone number…

    Loved your post!

These are great reasons to adopt a cat! My cat was a stray, and if I ever get another cat, it will either be one who finds his way to me (again) or adopted from a shelter. I think that older rescued animals really appreciate finding love and safety more than a pet who was brought home as a baby.
