With our next big trip coming up next week, I thought it would be appropriate to do a write up about all the fun cat-friendly activities Kansas City, MO has to offer. Kylo Ren and I will be departing next Tuesday for the 2018 BlogPaws Conference, and we can’t wait to check out some of the fun sights! After doing some research, I found out that Kansas City actually has several pet-friendly attractions…

Cat-Friendly Accommodations in Kansas City
While Kansas City has many hotels that claim to be “pet-friendly,” after doing some research and making some calls, it turns out that “pet-friendly” actually just means “dog-friendly” in most cases. We were able to find a couple an option for cat-friendly hotels though.
Red Roof Inn
Our top choice for pet-friendly travel is always Red Roof Inn. They allow pets (dogs AND cats) to stay at no extra cost, and their rooms are always affordable. And while their official policy is to only allow one pet, many locations will make an exception if you all ahead and ask. Thankfully there is a Red Roof located just outside of Kansas City in Independence, MO.

Kansas City Attractions to Enjoy with Your Adventure Kitty
Kansas City might not be a vacation destination that first comes to mind when brainstorming about cool places to visit with your cat, but it does have a lot to offer in the way of pet-friendly attractions and activities. Whether you are looking for more urban adventures or nature adventures, the Kansas City area has it all!
Nelson Atkins Art Museum
The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is large art museum known for its architecture and extensive art collections. While an interesting museum to visit for humans, pets are not allowed inside. They ARE, however, allowed the explore the grounds surrounding the museum! The grounds are full of sculpture and art that make for great photo ops with your adventure kitties.
Country Club Plaza
If you enjoy shopping, you and your kitty will definitely want to swing by Country Club Plaza. This shopping center has 15 blocks of stores and restaurants, and many of them are pet-friendly!
J.C. Nichols Memorial Fountain + Many More
Kansas City is known as the “City of Fountains,” and is said to have more fountains than Rome! There are lots of fountains scattered around the city, which makes for great photo ops. In April of each year, Kansas City celebrates Fountain Day – a day in which all 48 publicly-operated fountains spring back to life. This year, Fountain Day will take place on Tuesday, April 17th.
The J.C. Nichols Memorial Fountain is the most well-known and most-photographed fountains in the city, and is located in the Country Club Plaza area.
Loose Park
Located in within the city is one of Kansas City’s largest and most popular parks, Loose Park. Loose Park is 75-acres and is known in particular for its rose garden. There are about 4,000 roses of nearly 168 varieties in this garden. Loose Park also has a lake, many walking paths and picnic areas, and some historical Civil War sites. The good news? It’s all pet-friendly! Just be sure to clean up after your kitty should she need to “use the facilities” while there.
Weston Bend State Park
If you and your adventure cat are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and into the quiet calm of nature, Weston Bend State Park is just a 30 mile drive outside of Kansas City. Weston Bend is home to hiking trails, picnic areas, a scenic overlook, camp sites, and all the bird watching your little kitty’s heart desires! The scenic overlook gives visitors the opportunity see one of the most expansive views of the Missouri River in the state.
While Kylo and I will be busy at the BlogPaws Conference for the majority of our Kansas City visit, I am hoping we will have time to get out to at least one of the fun cat-friendly parks or attractions. If we do, we will be sure to share about it with you all!
Have you ever been to Kansas City? What was your favorite attraction/activity?

Great post! I wouldn’t have the slightest clue how to look this up. Last year’s hotel didn’t normally allow pets – I glad the one this year does.

I live here and it really is great, there’s also a place called Whiskers Cat Cafe, one of my favorite places, and partnered with the ASPCA. It’s quite pricey but worth it in the end.
