If you’ve been following our series, we hope that you’ve learned a lot about cerebellar hypoplasia. We also hope that our series has helped to raise awareness for CH cats and helped people realize that CH cats make great family members! I didn’t know anything about CH when we first met Sophie, so I had to do a lot of research and talking with other CH cat parents. There are several great resources out there with tons of information on CH, as well support groups for people who have CH cats.
One of the best resources for all things cerebellar hypoplasia is Life with CH Cats. This site is run by a fellow CH cat mom, Amanda. Amanda has two CH cats and has been writing and spreading the word about CH for a couple of years now. This is the first site that I found that seemed to have everything I needed to know all in one place! She has articles with tips on how to help CH cats, she shares stories of her two kitties, and she also has a section dedicated to her readers’ CH cats. Sophie was featured a little over a year ago – you can read her feature here. (I just read it myself for the first time in quite a while. It’s amazing to see how far she has come since then!)
And last, but not least, my final favorite resource – Petfinder. If you are considering adopting a cat with cerebellar hypoplasia but are unsure of where to find one, Petfinder is a great place to look. You can search for special needs cats within a specific distance of where you live. Unfortunately you can’t specify what type of special needs cat you are looking for, so you will have to browse through all of them, but you may be surprised to find that there is one right in your backyard! I get myself into trouble looking through the special needs cats on Petfinder. I always want them all, and my husband has to listen to me click on each kitty and say, “Oh Bobby, look at this one!” I guess I just like to torture myself…. ;)
(The CH Cats & Kittens Facebook group mentioned above is another great place to try to find adoptable CH cats.)
Well, this wraps up our Cerebellar Hypoplasia series! Thanks for stopping by and reading! If you have any questions or concerns, or if you are thinking of adopting a CH cat and want to know more, feel free to contact us.
