Drooling for Evanger’s Beef Hearts!

What’s on the menu for today? Evanger’s Beef Hearts Freeze Dried Dog & Cat Treats – THAT’S what! These treats are 100% pure beef heart – no grains, gluten, soy, or other ingredients at all. That’s what I love most about these treats. They are also made in the USA, which is awesome.

The downside? They are HUGE! We had to break/cut them into smaller pieces, but even after that the kitties had a difficult time eating them because they are so hard. They are jerky-like treats, which none of us are used to. The package did say that you can “reconstitute by putting in water for 3-5 minutes,” but that didn’t make a difference. I actually left a few sitting in a bowl of water for a couple of hours, but they were still very hard.

There is a plus side to the treats being difficult to eat – it takes the kitties longer to eat them, so if I need to distract them for some reason, these are the purrfect decoy! They scarf down regular treats in the blink of an eye, so it takes so many of them to act as a sufficient distraction. With these, I can break off a bite-sized piece for each cat, and they are occupied for a few minutes at a time.

Even though the kitties may have had a hard time eating these treats, their enthusiasm for them was not affected. They thought they were delicious and were begging for more.

I definitely think breaking the treats into smaller pieces is a must. I was worried about giving them the full-sized pieces for fear they may choke or hurt their mouths trying to eat the treats. Let me just show you how big they really are…

This is my husband holding a couple of the treats in his hand.

*I made my husband do the breaking/cutting/holding of the treats. They smelled bad, and I am a vegetarian pansy who didn’t want to touch them… MOL!

But like I said…. the kitties still LOVED the treats…

After about 30 seconds of trying to eat it, he gave me that utterly frustrated look that said, “Mooooommmm… why isn’t this working?!” So his piece got broken up, and he loved it.

Sophie, however, wasn’t falling for my distraction technique…

Delilah ate hers on the go! She wasn’t going to wait around for one of her brothers to steal it…

Like this guy, right here. Sampson chowed right down and then looked around for more!

That’s a great review! Sassy is so cute and funny in drool mode 🙂
It agree hard snack make a great decoy, and also I think all the chewing action is good for teeth and jaw. I’d love to get beef treat for my boys, but sadly Goro’s sensitive stomach can’t accept it.
Happy Friday and have a great weekend!

Wow beef hearts?! I’m intrigued and must tell mommy to go get me some! I surprisingly loved kangaroo meat when I tried it, so I’m sure beef hearts would be yummy too! I’ve never heard of Chewy, must go check out that website!
