It’s hard to resist those tiny whiskers and gentle, twinkling eyes when they come up to your lap begging you for a share of that tasty treat you are enjoying. But you need to keep your emotions in check if you really love your furry friend. What you’re putting in your mouth may cause it to suffer a serious illness.
Here are seven (7) human foods that you should avoid feeding your cat.
First of all, chips are unhealthy even for us human beings. If it’s not good for you who has a stronger digestive system, then how can it be good to someone who is weak? Cats have fine, sharp teeth which are made to slice soft meat. Hard, crunchy chips and pretzels could give them dental problems.

#2 – Chocolate & Chocolate Chip Cookies
Be careful when your child tries to share his cookie with your kitty. Real chocolates have certain toxins that are harmful to your cat’s health. It can affect the animal’s heart and nervous system, which can be fatal to the cat’s life.
There’s really no need to mention this here. No one in his right mind would feed a cat beer or hard liquor. But just in case you forget or you’re too intoxicated and want to have fun, please don’t make a public disgrace with your innocent little feline friend. Feeding a cat with alcohol is just inhumane.
Too much caffeine in your cat’s digestive system is definitely unhealthy just as it is unhealthy for you who loves to drink coffee a lot. However, you can withstand a sizable amount of caffeine in your system before you can experience the symptoms of an illness. Your cat is not as strong as you are. Too much caffeine is indeed dangerous to its health.
Basically, cats are carnivorous. They don’t eat much fruits and vegetables. If you want to feed your cat with fruits and vegetables, make sure to cook them. Raw vegetables are tough on your cat’s palate. Some vegetable and fruits are really harmful for your cat. Onion and garlic are quite toxic for your cat’s tummy. It can cause serious problems for your cat’s health. Avocados, cherries, grapes and raisins are also doubtful treats to give your little kitty.
Yes, that’s right – milk. Now is the time to say milk is just for babies. Adults need real, solid food. If you think you’re the only one who can be allergic to milk, then think again. Your grown up kitty can also be lactose intolerant just like you. They should not be exposed to dairy products as soon as they stop nursing because it cause an upset stomach, diarrhea and vomiting. Milk is also an insufficient food for your grown up kitty.
It’s really surprising to see this item on the list. Fish has always been known to be a cat’s favorite food. If you had more than one cat in your house, you would see them fighting over one fish. So why should you avoid feeding your cat with raw fish? You can ask your pet doctor and he or she would tell you that raw fish can cause your cat to develop thiamine deficiency. Thiamine is necessary for cats to stay healthy and fit.
Cats have a very sensitive digestive system. The food that we enjoy can cause them serious illness, so we really need to be careful with the food that we feed them. It may not always be good to share your food with your kitty. Be careful when you give treats to your lovely little feline friend.

With the exception of the raw fish (which we’ve never gotten anyway), I can’t imaging ANYONE being stupid enough to feed any of these to a kitty! But then, humans are not the brightest species!

Great reminder! Though Ashton would rather the humans not be reminded about the crispy chips part… those are one of her favorite non-species-appropriate things.

That sure is a great reminder to the dumb-dumbs out there, pay attention!

That’s a great post! My boys get raw (and cooked) fish for special occasions and in a small amount. But I won’t give frequently or in large amount. Goro has more sensitive tummy and he throws up if he eats beef. (We gotta be careful…because that won’t stop him from stealing it!)

I let Joanie have a lick of coffee off my finger sometimes, but that is all I do with anything on this list.

Thank you for the great reminder! Sometimes I allow my kitties to have special kitty milk that is lactose-free. Even then, I do not allow them to have much and it is a rare treat for them.
