Happy 8th Birthday to Sophie!

Today Sophie turns 8! Holy cow. I can’t believe it. I know I say that on all our cats’ birthdays, but with Sophie it’s especially true. She just doesn’t seem to age. Her personality is so youthful. I think her wobbliness is a contributing factor as well. She is forever young!

Anyway, here are some photos of the day we adopted her. We had been smitten with her for months, going to PetSmart on the weekends to visit her at the adoption events. We didn’t adopt her though because we had only been married less than a year, lived in a little apartment, had two cats, and didn’t think we could afford another. So we just settled for the occasional weekend visit. Finally, we couldn’t say “no” any longer. She snuggled in Bobby’s arms for 3 hours at PetSmart that day, and he couldn’t leave without her. She’s been a Daddy’s Girl ever since.

Happy Birthday, Sophie! You’ve taught me so much about life since you joined our family. The biggest lesson I’ve learned first-hand from you is to never give up. If you persevere and keep trying, you will accomplish your goals. Maybe not in the “usual way,” but in your own way, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

You are all love and all play. You are our original adventurer. You’ve never met a stranger, human or animal. You are fearless and fiercely determined. And man, do you know how to snuggle.
