Lovey Lesson #1 with Sampson: The Suckle
Whoever said cats aren’t loving and affectionate must have been insane! Every day, I wake up and am surrounded by so much love. My husband and I can always look to our kitties (and each other, of course) when we are feeling down, and our spirits are lifted. When one of us is having a particularly bad day or is grouchy, we joke and tell the other that they need some Lovey Lessons. Lovey Lessons are when we think about all of the sweet things the kitties do – their Lovey Moves. Each of our five cats has their own unique Lovey Moves, too. This is where the idea for a Lovey Lessons Series came from – I thought it would be neat for the kitties to spread their Lovey Teachings across the interwebs! So without further ado, let me hand this lesson over to Sampson. He is a true expert, so you will be in good hands… uh… I mean… paws.
Hey, everyone, and welcome to Lovey Lesson #1! Today I will be sharing with you one of my very best Lovey Moves. THE SUCKLE!!!! The Suckle is a timeless Lovey Move, and it’s also very versatile. Let me show you…
This first photo is me demonstrating The Suckle as a wee little kitten. See Dad’s face? He is thinking, “What in the world is happening to me right now?!” This was the first time he ever experienced The Suckle — this photo was taken just a couple of days after I was adopted. He didn’t know what was happening at first, but then he realized that it was one of my Lovey Moves. It’s actually my signature move. (I’ve spent 23405982934 years purrfecting it.)
These next two photos demonstrate both the timelessness and the versatility of The Suckle. No matter my age, The Suckle can always be pulled out. You can also see that I am suckling Mom’s neck… from behind!!! Many times, she doesn’t even see it coming. Sneak Attack! You can’t tell very well in the second photo, but she is actually laughing. The Suckle gets her every time.
There are a few other variations of The Suckle besides the front and backwards ones, but I will be saving those for another lesson. Don’t want to get too advanced in the very first lesson… One step at a time!
So good luck, my furiends! Don’t be surprised if your family members don’t like The Suckle at first. They will probably think it’s kind of weird, but they’ll get used to it and will actually learn to love it. See, they just need to be taught! Which is why I am here giving Lovey Lessons…
Have any questions about The Suckle? Feel free to ask away! We would also love to hear about some of your favorite Lovey Moves!

Binga says her favorite Lovey Move as a kitten was attacking the humans’ faces before they woke up in the morning… I get the feeling she really doesn’t understand the spirit of these posts.

Sampson, that is really really sweet and your humans are so privileged to get such lovey from you! I’d be so happy if my boys sneak attack me for suckling 🙂 You are Lovey Moves master, Samplson. Great lesson!
P.S. Thank you for your comment. I got shelves through crazycatcondos and catsplay websites. Both have great furniture 🙂

Cats ARE love. I can’t think of a better companion (although I just adopted a rabbit, and she’s already showing me more love than I expected as well). Have a lovely weekend.

I can attest to how lovely Sampy is since he is my boyfriend. I sure liked seeing the photo of him as an itty bitty kitten. Some of us use the suckle, but we always do it on plushies, I am sending Sampson suckles and a multitude of big, sloppy kisses, Astrid with love to Sampy and the whole family.

We’ve never done the Suckle before but the mom had a cat before us that did that all the time. And he made biscuits while he did it.

We don’t practice The Suckle, but that’s a great lesson for newbies ! Purrs

We’re all super lovey with the peeps, too. Even Tess always manages to fit in some lovin’, in between her fits of the growlies.

What a great idea on how to share kitty love. Yes Dad says the same thing that people that say that are like made of concrete. Well maybe just their heads. MOL
Rumpy does a variation of the suckle with a slight nibble. Dad says it feels really funny but if he is excited there may be an ouchie. MOL

What a sweet post, we love your Lovey Lesson #1 Sampson!

Sampson, Esme is also very good at “The suckle”. She like to practice on LP’s earlobes! Daddyman isn’t a candidate for this type of lovey lesson 🙂
