Our Nutrition Consult with The Pet Beastro
A few weeks ago, we were the lucky winners of a nutrition consult with The Pet Beastro, thanks to Robin, Cinco, and Manna over at Playful Kitty. We were so thrilled when we found out we had won this giveaway.
Many of our readers probably don’t know this (as I haven’t written about it in quite some time), but The Gang used to eat a 100% raw diet. Sophie has food allergies and is prone to chronic upper respiratory infections, so in trying to find a diet that would work for her, I came across the raw diet. After doing a lot of research, I took the plunge and switched everyone over. It was like a miracle cure for all of Sophie’s afflictions – no more upset stomach and no more URIs! Everyone took to it with no problem too – they all actually loved it! However, in the move we made last year, I got out of the habit of making their food. I was doing a combination of pre-ground raw purchased from a local pet store and homemade raw. Every Sunday I would prepare their food for the following week. It is time consuming to make a week’s worth of food for multiple cats, and with the move, I was pressed for time. I switched everyone back over to a grain-free canned food diet, and told myself that I would switch them back after we got moved and settled in. Well, here we are a year later and I have yet to switch back to raw.
After my consultation with Erica over at The Pet Beastro and reading a few fellow bloggers’ recent posts about the raw diet, I am pumped to get back to the grind (pun intended).
The consultation I had with Erica was a wonderful experience. We communicated via Skype, and after telling Erica about The Gang, their current diet, and their health concerns, she shared her thoughts on what she considers to be the best diet options for them. She went over a few types of raw diets (ground, freeze-dried, dehydrated) as well as different supplements that can be added in. I was able to ask her questions and voice my concerns, and she couldn’t have been more helpful. She even did a search to find which brands and which products I could find in stores near me. I learned so much in the 25 minutes we talked!
The next day, I was excited to find in my email a typed report of everything we went over in our consultation, along with more information about the different raw/dehydrated brands and the options they offer. And a couple days after that, I was surprised to find a box on my doorstep FULL of samples…
I couldn’t believe my eyes when I opened the box! Erica had told me she would mail me a few samples, but I was not expecting THIS! What a nice surprise. The kitties sure are excited to dive in, and I am too! Be on the lookout for more related posts as we give all of these samples a try.
Thank you Erica and The Pet Beastro!

That was a wonderful prize to win! Esme has a delicate and sensitive system like Little Sophie. We feed Innova Evo grain free but Evo will no longer be available in Canada in a few months so we have bought cases of it from as many pet stores as is possible until we can figure out what to change over too. We look forward to hearing back about the different samples!
