Last weekend my Kylo Ren, my husband, and I drove down to Savannah for a long weekend. Thanks to Red Roof Inn, we were able to enjoy a three-night stay in comfort without having to pay any pet fees for bringing Kylo along! Being about a three hour drive away, Savannah has always been a go-to destination for Bobby and me. Surprisingly though, we had never brought any of the cats along with us before. In planning this trip, I was pleased to find out that Savannah is actually a very pet-friendly city!
For some reason though, Kylo Ren was not really into this trip. He was fine in the car on the way down (he very rarely makes a peep when traveling in the car), but he did not let us get much sleep that first night. We got in to the hotel late Thursday night, and then he cried and cried all night long, which he has never done before. Usually he settles in bed with us and sleeps soundly until about 6:00am. He would not settle though, and I have no idea why.
The next morning, we got up and took Kylo to explore Skidaway Island State Park. He actually did pretty well on this outing. We went an almost 3-mile hike and explored the grounds. Kylo seemed to enjoy the sights and the smells, and he even walked almost the entire hike himself.
He did get a little tired towards the end though, so I carried him for the last little bit. We hadn’t brought his sling carrier, so he had to settle for riding on my shoulders, which he tolerated pretty well.
After the hike, we headed back to our Red Roof Inn for a rest. Kylo was pretty tired, and we were all ready for lunch. Since Kylo hadn’t gotten much sleep the night before and then went on a pretty good hike, we decided not to take him out for any more adventures that day. After a ma[. Bobby and I went back out and enjoyed the city some though!
The next day, we took Kylo to Bonaventure Cemetery. Since he loves exploring Rose Hill Cemetery here at home so much, I thought he would love Bonaventure. Unfortunately, he did not enjoy it at all. This cemetery is a popular attraction in Savannah because of its historical significance, so it was actually pretty busy. There were a lot of people and cars around, and even several tour groups. Kylo really prefers more secluded adventures, so I think all the hustle and bustle was too much for him. We didn’t stay long, but I did manage to get a couple photos of him.
Shortly after we got back to the hotel, it started raining, so Kylo didn’t get to go out on any more adventures. I don’t think he was really in the mood for it anyway.
Though he did well on the Skidaway Island hike, he didn’t seem to be interested in going out much otherwise. He did eventually settle in the hotel room, but not as well as he usually does. He seemed to be a bit on edge the entire weekend. I’m not totally sure why, other than he just wasn’t in the mood for adventure. This was my first experience with him not being gung-ho about it, so it was disappointing. I tried to be respectful of his mood and didn’t push him though.
Despite Kylo’s lack of enthusiasm for the trip, we got in at least one good adventure, and Bobby and I got out and did a lot of exploring on our own. It was a fun weekend for sure. If anyone is looking for a nice vacation spot (with or without your adventure kitties), we highly recommend Savannah!

Oh, I LURV Savannah! Was there a couple, three years ago with my girlfriends, and we took every tour we could find, including a trip to a ‘haunted’ warehouse at midnight! We toured the fort, Bonaventure Cemetery, and took a paddle-wheel boat ride too. When I got home, I re-read, “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” and wished I’d read it BEFORE!

I wonder if Kylo was uneasy about the weather (you mentioned it started to rain.) Hope he is ready for his next adventure. Thank you for sharing this one.

it is interesting how they react. I was going to ask if this was his first solo adventure, but he went to Blog Paws by himself.

I wonder what was up with this adventure for Kylo Ren. We kitties are like people – some trips we enjoy, others not so much – but being kitties, we can’t explain why very well! Like my trip to Roseville a few weeks ago – I didn’t have as much fun as usual (loved the airport parts, but that was about it). But my past weekend cat show in Ontario, I loved! I hope Kylo Ren’s next adventure is more fun for him.

Sorry Kylo wasn’t that into it. Maybe he wanted one of his siblings with him.

What a fun trip even if Kylo Ren wasn’t totally into it.

That sounds like a fun trip in a lovely place, despite Kylo Ren was not fully into it. Purrs

Maybe there was a scent in the motel room that he was sensitive to?
Glad you were all able to enjoy yourselves though and had a good time.
