Say Goodbye to Scooping with the ScoopFree® Ultra Self-Cleaning Litter Box! | Giveaway
Disclosure: This post and giveaway is sponsored by PetSafe We received a ScoopFree® Ultra Self-Cleaning Litter Box in exchange for our honest review, but this did not influence our opinions at all. We only share information that we feel is relevant to our readers. PetSafe is not responsible for the content of this post.
The ScoopFree® Ultra Self-Cleaning Litter Box is an automatic litter box that scoops itself. Simply plug it in, and it takes care of the rest. It has an automatic rake that can be set to sweep waste into a covered compartment either 5, 10, or 20 minutes after your cat exits the litter box. If your cat reenters the box for some reason, the safety sensors will automatically reset the rake timer. Another neat feature of this litter box is the health counter that tracks how many times your cat uses the box. This litter box also uses a special crystal litter that is 5 times more effective at reducing odors than regular clay litters. No need to worry about cleaning this litter box either, as the litter sits in a disposable litter tray. When it’s time to change the tray out, just toss it and replace it with a new one. For best results, you’ll want to replace the litter tray every 20 – 30 days for one cat, every 10 – 15 days for 2 cats, or every 7 – 10 days for 3 cats.
Other Features:
- Self-cleans for weeks with no scooping, cleaning, or refilling
- Rakes waste into closed waste compartment for superior odor control
- Disposable litter trays with leak-proof lining for easy cleanup
- Uses 5-10x less litter than clay and clumping litter
- Privacy hood gives your cat a secluded bathroom and reduces litter tracking
- ScoopFree litter trays can be used by themselves as portable, disposable litter boxes
*Note: You cannot use regular litter with this litter box. You must use the special disposable litter trays with the designated crystal litter.
We were lucky to have an opportunity to give this litter box a spin for ourselves. The verdict? We love it. I will admit that I was skeptical at first. Growing up, my family had an automatic litter box for our family cats for a while. It didn’t work very well at all though – it jammed constantly. That was several years ago though, and obviously the technology has improved immensely! We’ve been using the box for a couple of months now, and it has never jammed. It works perfectly!
If you’d like to check out the ScoopFree® Ultra Self-Cleaning Litter Box for yourself, visit the PetSafe website here. While you’re there you can also sign up for a subscription service to have the disposable litter trays delivered to your door at a designated time each month.

I’ve wondered how well the self-scooping litter boxes work. This one sounds nice. I really like the health counter that is included. Sometimes it’s really important to try to figure out how many times a kitty is using the litter box.
DJ says
I haven’t, but I think my cats would really like it.

Long years ago we had one of the furst auto litter boxes…and our angel Suki was so fascinated by it she ran to check it out each time it got ‘used’…then she decided to sit on the rake mechanism…either fur the ride or to get a better view of how it worked…at any rate she ruined it, and that was the last time we had one, MOL!!
Maybe our Minko & Pipo would like to try this one…

I haven’t used an automatic cleaning litter box but REALLY want one. We have four Treeing Walker Coonhounds and two cats (all rescues). The problem is, a couple of my dogs seem to think the litter boxes are their personal buffets. We just redid our upstairs bathroom and the way we have the covered litter box there set up to keep the dogs out of it takes up far too much room and looks bad. I figure if I get an automatic box I could keep it in the corner and not have it take up that much room, plus it would keep itself clean so the dogs wouldn’t be able to eat from it. Keeping fingers crossed. I really want one, but just don’t have the funds right now with all the vet bills we’ve had lately.

This sounds like a very good self-cleaning litter box. It would be a great help to me, because my shoulder is painful when I scoop and I have several cats. I had one a number of years ago; it was mediocre.
Alesha OL says

I love our box like this, but I have it in a room with 3 cats so it is costing me a small fortune in replacements boxes. I won’t enter the giveaway because we were lucky to get one to review.
Three Chatty Cats says
I would love to not have to scoop litter! But the one time I tried crystals, one of my cats ate them for some reason. So I better not try them again for now. Best of luck to those who enter – what a great giveaway!!
The Island Cats says
This sounds like a great litter box. But we’ll pass on the giveaway only because the box needs to be plugged in and where we keep our litter boxes, there isn’t a plug nearby. Good luck to all who enter!
Deziz World says

Great review! I like scooping myself, but I’ve been curious how well automatic ones work. Sounds like this litter box is very well made!
Cleopawtra (Becca Cook) says

I haven’t but would like to try. I scoop the litter box daily myself.
Elle says
A self-cleaning litter box sounds like a great innovation. I only have the regular litter boxes that I have to keep clean.
Melanie G says
No, I’ve never used a self cleaning one before….It almost seems too good to be true!
Jeffrey says
If you count my kids as cleaning the box for me as automatic then yes I have. If you don’t, then I have not!
Heather says
I’ve always wanted a self cleaning litter box, but have never found one I thought would do the job for 4 cats.
meowmeowmans says
We’ve never used a self cleaning box before, but would be curious to try!
Kimberly G says
I have never used an automatic litter box before.
Sarah B says
How easy is it to clean? How well does it clump? I’m intrigued!
Emily says
There is no cleaning involved. The tray that the litter is in just gets thrown away, and you start fresh with a new bottom tray every time. The only thing you have to do is wipe down the rake if it gets icky, but that is super easy to do. I’m assuming it clumps fine. I don’t see the clumps though, as they get scooped into a closed compartment that is part of the bottom throw-away tray. Every time I walk by the box, it is fresh, smooth, and clean looking!
Kitties Blue says
Mom’s friend with five cats had an automatic letterbox many years ago. The thing jammed all the time, and the container for the waste was way too small. We were surprised to hear that this newer version works well. Maybe we will win. Astrid sends Sampy a kiss for every litter box in the whole world and her forever love. Marty C says
I have not used an automatic litter box before. It seems like it would scare the cat, though?
Emily says
It doesn’t scoop until 10, 15, or 20 minutes after your cat has exited the box (you can set the timer for any one of those time increments). Everyone here has been using it with no problems!
Yeezy says
I haven’t tried an automatic litter box yet but I have been looking into getting one.
Cheryl Larimer says
I have never used a self scooping litter box but they seem like they are a great invention. Keeps the box clean and saves me time.
Heather W says
