Sophie Goes Canoeing | #WobblyWednesday
Guys! You won’t believe what I did last Friday! I went CANOEING! Mom and Dad got me a special life vest for it and everything. They also said if the trip went well, we would go canoeing more often, and that Kylo Ren might get his own life vest and get to go too!
So… what did I think about canoeing? I LOVED it! I was a little nervous at first since it was my first time in a canoe, but I soon realized how awesome it was, and I settled in for a super fun adventure. Let me tell you all about it!
Before we left the house, Mom packed a bag for us with all the essentials – my leash and harness, treats (for me and for Mom and Dad), a towel, water, a water bowl for me, and an umbrella to shade me if it got too hot. We headed out to Amerson River Park, which we’ve been to a couple of times, and put the canoe in at the designated canoe put-in spot. We knew there was another canoe spot a ways down the river to get out, but we weren’t sure how far it was. We were true adventurers that day – just going with the flow, if you catch my drift… 😉 We found out later that the canoe trail we followed was 2 miles long.
Along the way, we stopped at a couple of beaches. Here I am modeling my life vest on the first beach we stopped at. What do you think? I like how it matches my eyes.
As we traveled down the river, we saw all kinds of neat things – a turtle, some fishies, birdies, and even a snake!
At one point, the water got really shallow – like just 3-4 inches deep. I was standing in the bottom of the canoe looking over the edge, and I saw something that I just had to have on the bottom of the river, so I jumped in! I had to act fast before Mom could stop me. Well, I stood there in the river for a few seconds and then realized what a mistake I had made. That water was WET! Yuck! I turned right around and climbed back in the canoe (with Mom’s help, of course). We stopped at another beach soon after, and I got a chance to clean myself off…
Mom and Dad still gave me a bath when we got home though. Bummer. That almost made the trip not worth it. Okay, not really. I truly enjoyed myself. It was so relaxing to take in all the scenery and watch the world pass me by.
When we finally got to the ending point of the trip, I tried to jump out of the canoe again! Apparently I hadn’t learned my lesson the first time.
We were thinking that we were going to have to walk back to our car (which was parked over at the place where the adventure began) and then drive it back over to get the canoe, but thankfully there were some nice people who were also ending their canoe trip at the same time who drove us back to our car. Next time we will take two cars so we can leave one at the ending point and one at the starting point. We learned that lesson!
Anyway, I can’t WAIT to go canoeing again! Hopefully it will happen again sometime soon.
Saturday, June 4th is Hug Your Cat Day! As we do every year, we’d love to feature photos of all our readers hugging their kitties! If you’d like to be featured, please email us your cat-hugging photos to kittycatchronicles@gmail.com by Friday at noon, EST.

Wow, Sophie! You are SO lucky! I would love to try canoeing, but I don’t know if there is anywhere nearby for us… not to mention the fact that my human thinks any excursion out of town needs to have three or four stars attached to it! She’s not too good with nature.

What a fun adventure! I grew up in a house next to a river and had a canoe, so that was a day pastime when I was a kid. One of the best times of my life was taking the canoe and a book to my “reading tree” across the river, and enjoying the wildlife and water. I’m jealous!

I can’t believe you went canoeing! I have a hard enough time getting the cats in the crate to take them to the vet Lol! I can only imagine the shock and look on your face when you went in the water 😉 But well done to you and your humans for taking you on such an awesome adventure!

I think that is fantastic! Why should dogs get to have all the fun? I admit that I’ve never even thought about taking my cat on any adventures like that, but I’ve taken my dogs canoeing and camping before.

Mr. N has been canoeing with us too. He doesn’t believe in jumping in the water though!
