Five years ago, we brought home an underdeveloped kitten with all kinds of congenital defects. Milton was 9 weeks old, but he was the size of a 2-3 week old kitten. He only had one eye, and even that one was barely functioning. His head was misshapen, he had no tail, and we weren’t sure how long he would be with us.
Because of his fragile condition, Milton required some extra care. Though he ate on his own some, I also had to syringe feed him.
Five days after coming home with us, he took a turn for the worse and had to be rushed to the vet. They were able to stabilize him, and he came back home with us that afternoon. He seemed to improve over the next day, as I continued to syringe feed him and administer fluids as needed. However, another day later, he faded quickly and left this world as I held him in my arms.
At the time, I had no idea that goat’s milk was something you could give kittens (and puppies) as a replacer for their mother’s milk. I didn’t know it was packed with nutrients. If I had, I probably would have tried feeding that to Milton instead of the mushed up kitten canned food/water mixture I was syringe feeding him.
The Benefits of Goat Milk for Kittens
Did you know goat milk is referred to as the “universal mothers’ milk?” Of course true mother’s milk is the best, but that’s not always an option. Goat’s milk is the next best thing for a many reasons…
1. It is easy to digest and is hypoallergenic.
Goat milk has smaller fat globules than cow’s milk, which makes it easier for a wee little kitten’s digestive system to break it down. This also allows for faster nutrient and energy absorption.
Goat’s milk is also low in a particular casein that tends to be an allergen for cats, dogs, and humans alike. (Casein is a natural protein found in all mammal milk.) Because of this fact, goat’s milk is considered to be hypoallergenic!
2. It is packed full of nutrients.
I didn’t realize this before, but goat’s milk naturally contains 18% more calcium, 43% more potassium, 40% more magnesium, and 104% more Vitamin A than whole cow’s milk. Talk about packing a nutritious punch!
3. It’s super tasty!
Humans like goat’s milk for it’s refreshing and delicious flavor. Cats do too! Not only can goat’s milk and Tailspring milk replacers be used for newborn kittens, they can also be used as a meal topper or treat for adult cats.
So why Tailspring?
Now that we’ve established the amazing benefits of goat’s milk, you may be wondering… what’s so special about Tailspring Goat Milk Replacers? It’s true, there are other milk replacer products out there on the market. Tailspring has established itself as a cut above their competition though.
1. Goat’s milk comes first!
The number one reason why Tailspring is so great is because they put goat’s milk as the first and number one ingredient! In fact, Tailspring is currently the only pet nutrition brand that is formulated exclusively with goat’s milk!
2. It’s Grade A!
No, that’s not an arbitrary letter grade. Being Grade A certified means that it is made with human grade ingredients. Tailspring actually comes from Meyenberg, America’s favorite goat milk brand. Tailspring uses the same Grade A milk for their products as Meyenberg uses for their human products.
In fact, every single ingredient in Tailspring products comes from the highest-quality sources, and the products are manufactured, packed, and stored in accordance with human food regulations.
3. It’s scientifically forumated.
Tailspring was scientifically developed by a professional neonatal pet nutritionist with more than 30 years of experience. The formula includes all the essential nutrients, amino acids, fats, and vitamins that kittens need to truly thrive. Their products most closely match a mother’s milk.
4. It’s clean!
In addition to the Grade A goat’s milk, Tailspring products contain an additional 16 essential ingredients. The full ingredients list is actually the shortest and cleanest on the market! There are no preservatives, artificial flavors, or articial colors… EVER! Tailspring considers pets as part of the family and believe they deserve to eat the same quality food we feed ourselves.
Would Milton’s outcome have been different if I had fed him a product like Tailspring? There’s no way to know, of course, but I am glad to have the knowledge that I have now. After learning about goat milk for kittens and puppies and Tailspring products specifically, I feel much more prepared to take on caring for a fragile kitten if the need should ever arise again in the future.

That is interesting and great to know about. Thanks for the heads up.
That might have also been good as a supplement or a liquid mixer, to give to our angel kitties when they were not eating on their own anymore…

We know dear Milton was loved dearly while he was with you, was so happy for that, and is looking down with love from Heaven. Dad took care of a kitten we called Teeny-Tiny who also was a third of the size of his siblings. He passed in 2 days despite feedings from Dad. Now we have another way to help kittens in need. Thanks for a great post

It’s sad about Milton but at least he left this world loved. I’ve heard of the benefits of goat’s milk but when the mom gave me some one time, I didn’t like it. It wasn’t the Tailspring brand…maybe that might be better.
