A Hike in the Woods for the KittyCatGO Adventure Challenge

October 22, 2020 10 Comments

A couple weeks ago, we kicked off the first ever KittyCatGO Adventure Challenge over on our sister site. Since it started, we’ve had kitties from all over the world joining in on the fun. It has been AWESOME! We’ve loved seeing everyone’s entries, and we of course had to participate as well.

(It’s not too late to join in the KittyCatGO Adventure Challenge fun! There are still 2 weeks left to go! You can click here for info on how to participate.)

Last weekend we took Kylo Ren for a hike at our favorite trail, Hitchiti Loop Trail, to check off some tasks for the challenge. It is a beautiful, secluded trail nestled in the Hitchiti Experimental Forest just outside of Macon. It has everything a little adventurer could want – clearly marked paths through the woods, fallen trees to climb on, a creek, rocks, and eventually the Ocmulgee River. The best part is that hardly anyone knows about it, so we often have the trail to ourselves.

Kylo was able to complete 20 tasks for the challenge on this one 4-mile hike! Here are some examples of the tasks he did:

  • wearing his harness
  • walking on his leash
  • riding in his backpack
  • posing on a fallen log
  • posing somewhere high
  • climbing a tree
  • jumping from one surface to another
  • posing beside a body of water
  • going on a hike
  • and more!

We had the best time! Here are some photos we captured from the day’s adventure, plus a super awesome video compilation of Kylo walking the trail, making an epic jump, and climbing a tree.

When we finally made it to the Ocmulgee River – about 2 miles in. We were excited to find that the water level was low enough that we could walk out on the rocks in the river. We had so much rain this spring and summer that the river was much higher all the other times we’ve hiked the trail. We had a great time just sitting and enjoying the beautiful view.

And as promised, here is a video compilation of cool things Kylo did on the hike, including some Kylo’s-eye view of the hike and original music written by my husband, Bobby!

What a fun adventure! I haven’t tried the challenge because being an urban kitty (with an urban human who doesn’t do hiking stuff other than the local 1-mile trail around a rock), it’s just not as exciting as more outdoorsy kitties!

Wow Kylo you did an amazing job on that hike. Really well done. We wish Dad could hike so we could too but we have a cat yard that is really big and fun. Maybe hike down here. What Dad? Oh, that far huh. Never mind friends we will watch you on video. Purrs to all

Go Kylo! Our Milo is not the outdoorsy type, to say the least. Haha Love the photos. What a daring little guy you’ve got!
