This past Saturday, we hosted our very first KCC Adventure Team Meet-Up! It was SO much fun! There’s nothing like getting to spend time with like-minded people whom you share a passion with.
I was surprised at what a good turnout we had too. I had prepared myself for the fact that maybe only one or two people would show up, but at one point there were about 15 people there. It certainly helped that our local news station came by the house a couple of days before the meetup to talk about it with me. (You can check out the story they did on the meet-up here.)
What was even more surprising than the number of people that came out was the number of cats who attended! Besides Sophie and Kylo Ren, there were four other cats.
Shira and Pixel are pretty experienced adventurers. They are members of our Facebook group and post about their fun outings all the time. They came with two of their humans all the way up from Gainesville, Florida!
The meet-up was Kitty’s first outing, but she did really well! Her humans said she is an outside cat anyway, so she was already comfortable with being outdoors. We were all surprised by how well she did on her leash though.
Cassie has been out on adventures with her human before, but this was her first outing with a crowd of people and other cats. She got pretty nervous and stressed out, but I think she will be able to get more comfortable with time.
I know a lot of people are curious to know how all the cats got along. While there was some hissing, there were no major issues. I wouldn’t say that any of the cats decided to be friends with each other, but they did a good job of tolerating each other’s presence. A couple of them even decided to go on a miniature walk together. When Kylo Ren realized what was going on, he jumped down off his picnic table and raced after them. He didn’t want to miss out on a good walk!
The meet-up was a lot of fun, and everyone asked me when the next one is, so I definitely thing this will become a semi-regular thing. Hopefully it will keep growing and growing!
After the meet-up was over, Bobby and I went out to lunch with Shira, Pixel, and their humans. We ate at a local downtown restaurant that has a pet-friendly covered patio. While Sophie, Kylo, Shira, and Pixel were the only cats at the restaurant, there were a couple other dogs. Sophie wanted to make friends with them, of course…
Kylo, on the other hand, preferred to observe his surroundings from the comfort of his Sleepypod…
I still can’t believe what a success our first meet-up was. I can’t wait for the next one! Maybe YOU can join us! 🙂
