Today, for the very first time, we are celebrating Raddy’s birthday! Technically, we don’t know when his actual birthday is, but today is the one-year anniversary of the day we adopted him. He was estimated to be about two years old at that time, so today we declaring it’s his third birthday 🙂
When we adopted Raddy last year, we were not even thinking about getting another cat. (That could be said for the last few adoptions we’ve had, actually – MOL!) But when Rebecca, Sophie’s foster mom, texted me about him, we couldn’t say no. Rebecca knows my weakness! We went to meet him for the first time at Petsmart, and I saw in his eyes what a sweet and gentle soul he is. We brought him home, and the rest is history!
Raddy assimilated into our family right away. Even Delilah, who gets annoyed at the other kitties all the time, didn’t mind Raddy. In fact, the two of them have become buddies. Raddy is actually best friends with everyone. He loves everybody, and everybody loves him.
Raddy’s favorite two things in the world are cuddles and bird/squirrel/chipmunk TV. When he’s not snuggled up with someone, he is in the window surveying his kingdom.
While Raddy’s back leg issues haven’t improved, he has made some amazing accomplishments despite his disability. Like Sophie, he is an amazing climber. He climbs up on everything – including our Cat Wall and cat tree. There’s nothing this sweet boy can’t do!
The one thing that does get in Raddy’s way is his fear. He is quite skittish and will run from both Bobby and me if we move too quickly or too loudly. He took a while to warm up to Bobby at all, but is finally coming around to letting Bobby cuddle with him. Because he likes watching out the windows so much, I thought he might enjoy going out on our back deck, so I took him out one afternoon to sit in the hammock. He was terrified, so that lasted all of five seconds. His fearfulness is just further evidence that Raddy had to have been abused earlier in his life, most likely by a man. It breaks my heart to think about it, but he is improving and trusting more and more!
I feel so blessed to be able to share our home and life with Raddy. He is so much fun and full of so much love. When he snuggles with me, he will sometimes reach out to touch my face and looks up at me with his big, sweet, orange eyes. I feel as if I can see straight through to his heart and soul, and all I see is love.
