Today is the anniversary of the day Raddy joined our family 3 years ago, which of course means we are celebrating his “birthday” today!
Raddy is a sweet, gentle soul. He would never hurt a fly. Because of his questionable past (the rescue said he came from a not-very-good situation), he has always been very skittish, especially with men. If you were to come over to our house, you’d likely never see him – he would be under our bed, hiding. Once you earn his trust though? You’ll get ALL the snuggles. He loves belly rubs too, so if you’re REALLY lucky, he’ll roll over and show you his belly.
Up until a couple months ago, Raddy lived a pretty quiet life. He loves the other cats, and he loves snuggling with me, so I’d never say he was lonely. But he often secluded himself to our bedroom. Then we built the catio back in May, and Raddy’s life changed drastically. If I had known how much a catio would affect Raddy, we would have built one long ago.
He is out ALL the time now, spending the majority of his time on the catio. He asks me to open it first thing in the morning, and he will stay out there all day. He doesn’t even come in at mealtimes until the last possible second. The window onto the catio is right beside the kitchen, so when we’re dishing out food, he will pop his head in to see if his bowl is down on the floor yet. But until that bowl hits the ground, he’s not coming in.
My heart is full, seeing him enjoy the catio so much. One day I hope we can add onto it so his world will grow even more!
Raddy, you are the sweetest. I am honored to have earned your trust in this life and to be able to give you the best life possible. You deserve it, Mr. Orange. Here’s to many more years of catio hangs with you! Happy Birthday, sweet boy.
