Multiple Pet Day

Multiple Pet Day

Today we are excited to be participating in Multiple Pet Day, hosted by Cascadian Nomads, My GBGV Life and Wag’n’Woof Pets! Today is for all those who share their lives with multiple pets, whether that means multiple cats, multiple dogs, or a combination of cats, dogs, rabbits, birds, lizards, etc…

I can’t remember a time that I didn’t live in a multi-pet household. Now my husband and I share our home with five cats, but as a kid I grew up with both cats and dogs. At one point, my family shared our home with three cats and three dogs. To me, having multiple animals is just a given. If it weren’t for financial considerations, I wouldn’t stop at five cats! One day I hope to add dogs, goats, chickens, and cows to the mix!

When I tell people that I have five cats, I am often met with disbelieving looks, or the typical “you must be a crazy cat lady” response. Sure, to some it seems insane to have so many cats. But I wouldn’t have it any other way. So… why is having multiple pets so awesome?

1. We have non-stop entertainment.

My husband and I say all the time that our cats provide the best entertainment we could ever want. We could plop down on the couch, grab a snack, and sit and watch the Comedy Cat Channel starring Delilah, Sampson, Sophie, Sassy, and Caster – all day, every day. If they’re not wrestling, they’re cuddling; if they’re not cuddling, they’re playing chase; if they’re not playing chase, they’re running around the house with seemingly no purpose. They’re always up to something, and it’s always guaranteed to be something worth watching.

2. They keep each other company.

People use the argument that having multiple pets is more work than having just one, but I’d have to say the opposite is true. When you have more than one, they play with and entertain each other. They become less needy. I think this is especially important for those that may work a lot or are away from home often. That’s not to say that my cats don’t ever act needy, or that I don’t have to play with them – I have play time with them every day, and they can sometimes be the neediest beings on the planet! But I think having multiple cats helps to balance it all out. Now some would take the argument the other way and say that when you have multiple pets, they become best friends with each other and won’t bond with you. NOT. TRUE.
Which brings me to my third point…

3. Nothing compares to the love shared amongst us.

Imagine the love you share with one of your pets. Now multiply that by two, five, eight, etc! I can’t put into words the feelings of love and joy that abound in our home. When I’m feeling down, I can always count on having at least two of my cats at a time coming and comforting me. When I’m excited about something, I share the excitement by having energetic group play time with all of them. At the end of the day, I can look forward to being covered in a blanket of kitties. There’s nothing like it. And the unique and special bond I share with each kitty? Absolutely priceless.
Multiple Pet Day

Sure, there are negative aspects to having so many cats. I’ll be honest – it’s expensive! And when my husband and I want to go out of town, we can’t just pick up and leave; we have to hire a pet-sitter. Keeping the house in a perfectly neat and tidy condition is nearly impossible too. But to me, none of that matters. Sharing our home with five cats is priceless and makes it all more than worth it. I wouldn’t trade it for anything

I love living in a multi-cat family – that way, when my human is busy, I have pals to entertain me! And it’s cool that I have her boyfriend here too – he eats different stuff from my human, like cantaloupe, and he gives treats!

    We love this post!
Our pawrents often laugh about the entertainment we provide. They even say that Preslee and Prudence should have been named: Netflix and Showtime.

You’re right…having multiple cats has its advantages and disadvantages…but the mom says the good outweighs the bad and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Your cats are so sweet! I love having multiple pets! Growing up we always had multiple pets; cats, dogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, turtles. The only time I didn’t have multiple pets was; When I was single living in Manhattan because I had roommates that wouldn’t allow pets! The first few years I was married because my hubby was not into the multi pet thing – but he is now!

My mom did have four cats at one time and when I joined the family it as us two dogs with three cats. Now we are three dogs and two cats. Mom says two of each is probably the best. You all look pretty happy!

We should have pawticipated in this special day, don’t you think? Mom misses so many opportunities. When Mom was a really little girl, they had 13 kitties at one time, Two moms: a Persian with two kittens and a tabby with nine. In the end, they only kept one kitten. Mom wasn’t too happy about that as it was not her favorite one. After having to have him put to sleep, they became a dog family. We love all you sweet kitties and your pawrents. I grew up with dogs, cats, and hamsters, and it was always fun to see how they interact with each other. All of your reasons for having multiple fur kids are so true and I totally agree! I love love love your photo covered in a blanket of kitties 🙂

I have two kitties, and if I had the financial means, I’d definitely get more! There’s nothing like having multiple kitties in your home. There’s never a dull moment, and a kitty is always there for you whether you’re happy or sad. I cannot imagine my life without kitties in it.

Great post! Love the pictures. I would like one more cat as I used to always have more than one. For now I will stick to my 3 chessies, the puppies on the way and my one cat
