Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge with Kylo Ren & Gryphon

March 2, 2020 10 Comments

We had another beautiful weekend, so we took Kylo Ren and Gryphon for a hike at Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge. Though Piedmont has been on our “to visit” list for a while, we had never been before. Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge is a 35,000 acre wildlife refuge with a handful of hiking trails scattered around. It was a beautiful hike and also very quiet. We had the place all to ourselves!

Our friends who we ran into on Kylo Ren’s birthday hike a couple weeks ago came with us too, this time purposefully. It was a lot of fun!

The boys didn’t do a ton of hiking themselves for whatever reason. They both seemed to be more in the mood to sit and relax. We did some of that, but they also did a lot of backpack and shoulder riding since they weren’t in the mood to hike.

Gryphon even decided that he wanted to ride on Bobby’s head. A better view perhaps?

Kylo is a huge fan of walking along fallen trees, so when we came across a really big one, he had to investigate it. He decided to climb to the top of the root ball and and perch, examining his surroundings. He was like a king surveying his kingdom.

Then Gryphon realized what a cool spot it was, so he wanted to try it out too…

Kylo, however, was not in the mood to share. He was “King of the Hill,” and no one else was welcome atop his throne.

Gryphon backed down and we continued on our adventure. There were so many sights and smells and sounds. We all just enjoyed taking it all in.

We only explored one of the hiking trails at Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge, so we’ll definitely be going back again to see what else we can see!

What did you do this weekend?

Sounds like a great weekend! Gryphon seems to have really taken to being an adventure cat.

My husband and I took our oldest cat for the first time in a backpack to Petco. Then I loaded our youngest into a backpack and took her for a walk with our dog around the neighborhood. It was nice to start going again on adventures after a long winter.

Kylo might be on the smaller side – but he’s a king in his eyes 🙂 We can’t really disagree.
