Smiling with the Suggies

Okay, so I know this is a cat blog, but sometimes I have just too many cute pictures of Jubilee and Sydney the Sugar Gliders that I HAVE to share them with the world! I thought it would be fun to include some fun facts about them as well, so you can get to know them better. These two make me smile and warm my heart, so I hope they do the same for you!

Smiling with Suggies: Jubilee the Sugar Glider with his treat
That face! Those eyes! Those itty bitty whiskers! Jubilee has me wrapped around his little paw.

Jubilee is my sweet, gentle boy. He usually always wants to be on me or close to me whenever we have Tent Time. (Tent Time is when I get in our pop up tent to play and spend time with them.) Sydney, on the other hand, is my wild and crazy girl. She is always running and jumping around, never staying in one spot for very long. She has such a sassy personality. When I get woken up in the middle of the night by glider barking, it is usually Sydney. When this happens, I go in their room, flip the light on (which makes them scurry), and tell her to be quiet. She stops barking for the moment, but as soon as I turn the light out and walk out, she starts right back up again.

Smiling with Suggies: Sydney the Sugar Glider in the Silo
Sydney in their silo toy during tent time

A common question that I get asked a lot about Jubie and Sydney is if they play and what do they play with. They absolutely do play and are extremely active! Their favorite toys are their wheel, little kid toys (like the silo in the above picture), and plastic rings.

Picking out toys for them is a lot of fun. When I went Christmas shopping for them, I went to Goodwill and picked out the silo, a little barn playhouse, a Star Wars land cruiser toy, and a toy boat that I hung from the top of their cage. I remember the lady at the checkout asked me if I had a bunch of guests at my house that I was buying these toys for. I told her no, that they were for my sugar gliders. The look I got in response was priceless! šŸ˜€

Their cage set-up

Besides their wheel, Jubie and Sydney’sĀ absolute FAVORITE thing is plastic rings. I get them at the dollar store from the toy section – they are actually plastic bracelets. I hide them around their cage every night, and when I wake up in the morning, every single ring is in Jubie and Sydney’sĀ fleece sleeping pouch with them. I don’t know how they ever get comfortable in their pouch along with 10-12 plastic rings, but hey, whatever floats their boat.

A pile of rings that I pulled out of their sleeping pouch a few days ago. All from one night.

Fun Fact: They carry the rings by their tails! I have yet to get a good video of it, but as soon as I do, I promise I’ll share it. It’s the cutest thing!

Smiling with Suggies: Jubilee Double Fisting Treats
When one treat isn’t enough and you have to double fist

Alright, well I hope that Jubie and Sydney were able to bring a smile to your face today šŸ™‚ If you have any questions about them, ask in the comments below. I’ll do a follow-up post next week and answer all of your questions!

so cute – we love seeing them and learning more about them.

maybe you already answered this, but since you have a girl and a boy….do you have a vet that does spay/neuter? how hard was it to find an exotics vet?

Oh, you did bring a smile! I loved reading how you leave those rings out each night and wake up to see they bought them to their beds. Their cage set-up looks like a party. It’s so festive & fun! Yes, I can see how fun it is to shop for their toys.

Too funny about Sydney’s sassy barking. šŸ™‚

They are so adorable. I have questions. 1. What is the life span of gliders? 2. Will they need to be spayed/neutered? 3. Do they go to the bathroom in one specific area?
