The Natural Pet Company, Cat Toys Variety Pack: Product Review

Today we will be doing our very first product review! The Natural Pet Company recently contacted me and asked if we would like to review a few of their toys. Of course I said, “Yes!”

The Natural Pet Company is a new company, founded just last year, that aims to produce cat toys that are eco-friendly. This means that their products aren’t made from plastics or synthetic materials. They have also promised to donate to cat-related charities once their company begins to turn a profit. We think that all of these things are wonderful! A company that makes their products from all-natural materials, specifically targets kitties, and who will be using their profits to support kitties in need? How does it get any better than that?!?

Today, we will be reviewing the Cat Toys Variety Pack, which includes one plush interactive feather wand, three wicker bell balls, and one mouse rattle chew.

PictureDoesn’t it blend in nicely?

As soon as I saw the wicker bell balls, I knew they would be a hit. On the dining room table, I have a nice bowl filled with decorative “filler”. Delilah seems to think that this bowl is her toy bowl and that the “filler” items are her toys. She frequently steals the decorative wicker balls from this bowl and bats and chases them around. I don’t even know how many have gone missing. My husband always takes Delilah’s side and says that my decorative filler resemble cat toys, but I have refused to believe it. Until now…
<—-Pictured to the left is my bowl with one of the new wicker bell balls from The Natural Pet Company placed alongside the decorative filler. I guess my bowl really has been filled with cat toys this whole time.

Needless to say, the wicker bell balls, along with my decorative filler balls, are a favorite of all. I like that they have a tinkly bell inside. I don’t know that the cats care either way about their toys jingling, but for me, it’s like an alarm alerting me to grab my camera because cute things are happening. Even if I am in a different room, I know when someone is playing! The kitties really seem to like the dangly ribbons attached to the wicker balls as well. They like to pull the ribbons with their teeth and then toss the balls around. On the flip side, I can foresee the ribbons beginning to fray from the cats chewing on them so much, which could be a safety hazard. I will just keep an eye on them, and if I notice the ribbons fraying, I will cut them off. They can easily be removed, and the wicker ball toy can still be playable without ribbons.

Caster & Delilah with the wicker bell balls

The mouse rattle chew was a huge hit with Caster, which is surprising because Caster doesn’t play with toys very often. He is a rough houser and mostly just likes to wrestle with Sampson and Sophie and attack my and my husband’s hands and feet. Caster’s motto: “Toys? Who needs toys when there are living things that can be attacked!” The mouse rattle chew was a different story – he made it his mission to destroy that thing. And destroy it he did. Pictured below is the damage he inflicted in just one day. I don’t care so much that he destroyed it so quickly. If Caster shows interest in a toy, there must be something pretty awesome about it, and I would just buy another one. Plus, even though the wrapping came off, it is still playable.

Caster & the mousie: before and after

On to the mouse wand toy… Sampson’s most favorite. I will preface this review by saying that Sampson loves wand toys, and he also has some freakish obsession with feathers. We actually don’t buy toys that have feathers on them because he turns into a psycho. He will grab them in his mouth with a death-grip bite, growl incessantly, and run around. He actually swallows the feathers too. I don’t know how many times I’ve had to pull feathers out of his mouth/throat. Under normal circumstances, Sampson is a very sweet, gentle, and laid-back kitty, but something about feathers triggers the survivalist/hunter mode in him. Because of the safety hazard feathers pose to him (since he swallows them), we only buy feather toys for him on special occasions like Christmas or his birthday and only let him play with them under supervision. Now on to the review…

The mouse wand toy has feathers on it, so of course Sampson was all about it. In typical Sampson fashion, as soon as he got ahold of it, there was no getting it away from him. There was also no sharing with the other kitties. The reasons why I like this wand toy more than other wand toys we’ve had in the past is because the string that attaches the mouse to the wand is elastic. This allows for more energetic and raucous play, as I can fling it around more, and once Sampson caught it, he could pull on it without breaking it. The elastic is genius, really.

I’ll let the kitties take it from here… Only a video can truly capture how much they enjoyed these toys.
