A Visit to the Jarrell Plantation Historic Site with Kylo Ren

February 1, 2019 6 Comments

Before the winter temps dropped down below our tolerance level once again, the KCC Adventure Team members got out for a couple of outings last week. Sophie explored our city’s downtown area, and Kylo Ren took a trip to Jarrell Plantation.

The Jarrell Plantation State Historic Site is an old cotton plantation located in Juliette, GA. It is one of the best-preserved examples of a middle-class Southern plantation. It started off as a cotton farm, but the Jarrell family eventually added a mill complex as well. Today, visitors to the site can see and explore the farmhouse, a sawmill, cotton gin, gristmill, shingle mill, planer, sugar cane press, syrup evaporator, workshop, barn, and outbuildings. While pets are not allowed inside any of the buildings, they are welcome to explore the paths that meander through the farm and woodsy areas.

We picked the perfect time to visit – we were the only ones there! This was awesome because Kylo Ren prefers more quiet, outdoor adventures. As soon as we put him down on the path, he was off!

He really enjoyed climbing around on the different fixtures around the park…

This is an old wagon hitch!

Though Kylo wasn’t allowed in any of the buildings, he wanted to go inside so badly! He pushed his limits though…

LET ME IN!

As we started heading back to the car, we heard one of the resident goats calling. We decided to see what Kylo would think about goats…

Though the goat was interested in Kylo, Kylo didn’t want anything to do with the goat. Their encounter ended in a stand-off, initiated by the sith lord himself. He thinks he’s so fierce ;D

I had never been to Jarrell Plantation before, but it really was interesting. I’m not big into history, but it was neat to explore the plantation and get a glimpse into what life was like back then. Most of the machinery is actually still operational, as they have demonstrations there sometimes. Thankfully that wasn’t going on when we were there. I think that would have probably been a little noisy!

Despite the goat encounter, Kylo Ren enjoyed himself and was glad to get outside for some exploring. Hopefully the cold weather won’t last too long so we can get back out soon!
