In just a couple weeks, we will be packing our bags and heading down to Savannah, GA for a long weekend, and I couldn’t be more excited. Savannah is a favorite weekend destination for my husband and me. This trip will be different though because Kylo Ren (and possibly Caster) of the KCC Adventure Team will be joining us! This will be our first Savannah trip with one of our adventure cats in tow, so I have been busy trying to find cat-friendly things to do and places to go. Thankfully, Savannah has tons of cat-friendly options, so I figured I would compile my findings into a handy travel guide in case any other adventure cats and their humans decide to make the trip too.

Cat-Friendly Accommodations in Savannah
Many of the hotels in Savannah are pet-friendly, but most of them charge extra pet fees. There are a couple of options that do not charge extra for pets though…
The Brice, A Kimpton Hotel – For those looking for a higher-end hotel experience, The Brice is an excellent cat-friendly hotel located in the historic Savannah area, just one block from River Street. Two pets of any size are welcome for no additional fees.
La Quinta or Red Roof Inn – If you’re on a tighter budget, La Quinta or Red Roof Inn are two economical cat-friendly choices. Pets stay free at both! Click here to find out 5 reasons why Red Roof Inn is always our go-to hotel when we travel.
Cat-Friendly Savannah Parks
Skidaway Island State Park
If you’re looking for a scenic spot to do some leisurely hiking with your leashed adventure kitty, Skidaway Island State Park is the perfect place. With 6 miles of trails that meander along the Intercoastal Waterway, through maritime forest, and past salt marsh, you can expect to take in some beautiful views. Visitors can also expect to see deer, fiddler crabs, raccoons, egrets and other wildlife. The park has pet-friendly campgrounds as well.
Following trails is one of Kylo Ren’s favorite adventure activities, so I personally can’t wait to visit this park during our trip!
Bonaventure Cemetery
A cemetery might not the first thing that comes to mind when looking for cool places to visit with your cat, but they are actually at the top of Kylo Ren’s list of favorite places. Cemeteries, especially old historical ones, are really quite interesting and provide a beautiful backdrop for an afternoon outing. Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah is no exception. With 100+ acres of unique grave markers and Spanish moss-draped trees, Bonaventure Cemetery should be on your Savannah bucket list! Just be sure to keep your cat on a leash and pick after him.
Other Cat-Friendly Parks:
- Wormsloe State Historic Site
- Savannah Botanical Gardens
- Old Fort Jackson (they fire off cannons, so beware!)
- Georgia State Railroad Museum
- Battlefield Memorial Park
Savannah’s Cat-Friendly Tours
If you’re visiting a city for the first time, sometimes one of the most fun activities you can do is to take a tour. Guided city tours are a great way to learn more about a city, and you’ll get to see a lot of the most interesting sights. Being a city rich in history, Savannah offers several different kinds of tours, both of the walking and riding variety.
Old Savannah Tours
This tour company has been voted Best Trolley Tour in Savannah for the past 15 years! They offer several different types of tours, from historical ones to architectural ones to land and sea and more! In addition to exploring Historic Savannah sites, their tours are filled with lively historical re-enactors who bring Savannah’s history to life. Cats are welcome, but they must be less than 25 pounds and sit on your lap to enjoy the tour.
Blue Orb Ghost Tours
Savannah is known as American’s Most Haunted City, so if ghosts are your thing, you and your cat won’t want to pass up the chance to take one of these walking ghost tours. Cats already seem to have a sense for the “unseen,” so I can only imagine how spooky it might be to take a ghost tour with one. Rated as one of the Top 10 Ghost Tours in the World by Trip Advisor, Blue Orb Ghost Tours welcome you and your adventure cat companion on their walking tours. Their adults-only Uncensored Zombie Ghost Tour is quite popular but is not recommended for the faint of heart! If you and your cat are truly fearless, we suggest giving this tour a try.
Adventure Tours in Motion
Adventure Tours in Motion offers e-bike tours around Historic Savannah. Cats who weight 13 pounds or less are welcome to ride along in a basket that is attached to the front of the bike. Be sure to make a reservation and let them know you’d like to bring your cat though, as the number of baskets available may be limited.
Other Cat-Friendly Tours:
- Plantation Carriage Company
- Savannah Movie Tours and More
- Explore Savannah Tours
- Carriage Tours of Savannah
- Haunted Savannah Tours
- Savannah Pedicab
Take Your Cat Shopping in Savannah
Who doesn’t love to take a leisurely stroll through the shopping areas of a new city? Savannah doesn’t disappoint in this department, and thankfully many stores will allow you to carry your cat in with you. Be sure to bring a pet sling or backpack carrier along with you for this reason. Whichever shops, galleries, or restaurants you visit, just be sure to ask before entering with your cat.
River Street
Savannah’s historic River Street is lined with fun shops, local restaurants, and (my personal favorite) candy stores! The restaurants that have outdoor seating will also allow you to eat with your cat out on the patio. Even if you don’t go into any shops or visit any of the restaurants, a stroll down River Street beside the Savannah River is worthwhile.
City Market
City Market is a four block open-air market, located just a couple blocks from River Street. It is full of unique shops, restaurants, and art galleries. My husband and I personally love perusing the different art galleries – most of which are filled with artwork down by local artists. I was excited to learn that many of these shops and galleries will allow you to visit with your cat, and the restaurants with outdoor seating will also allow you to dine with your cat.
Cat-Friendly Shops:
- Savannah’s Candy Kitchen
- Savannah Bee Company
- A.T. Hun Art Gallery
- The Black Dog General Store
- and more
Cat-Friendly Restaurants (outside seating)
- Leopold’s Ice Cream
- J. Christopher’s
- Moon River Brewing Company
- Huey’s
- Wild Wing Cafe
- Tubby’s Seafood
- and more
Purrvana Cafe and Cat Lounge
Okay, so you can’t actually bring your cat with you to the Purrvana Cafe and Cat Lounge, but you can visit with all the adoptable kitties that are already there! If you’ve never been to a cat lounge (or even if you have), you won’t want to pass up the opportunity to stop by for some pets and snuggles. They also serve snacks and drinks. Reservations are recommended.
As you can see, Savannah offers TONS of activities you can enjoy with your adventure cat. I am so looking forward to our trip and will definitely be reporting back about our experiences, so be on the lookout!

I enjoyed Savannah when visiting there about three-four years ago. It’s quite the university town, so I really enjoyed the vegan food choices. The city is delightful, but has a rather dark historic past, which is why it’s so haunted, I expect! Visited the cemetery; it’s awesome!

This is an excellent article for cat owners and pet owners in general! We love Savannah, and it’s great to know that most of our favorite palaces to visit are pet friendly. I am disappointed in Tybee Island’s beach policy on pets. I hope that changes.
Bonaventure Cemetery is on my top list in Savannah and should make for some awesome pictures, Emily!
