Traveling in Safety, Comfort, and Style – A Sleepypod Review
Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Sleepypod. We received a Sleepypod in exchange for our honest review, but this did not influence our opinions at all. We only share information we feel is relevant to our readers. Sleepypod is not responsible for the content of this post.
When traveling with my cats, there are two things that are most important to me – their safety, and their comfort. As we travel with Sophie frequently, we have a pretty good idea of what works well for her – we know what we need to bring with us, and we know what we need to do to be sure everything runs smoothly and safely. The one aspect of travel with her that has yet to be perfected is the actual car ride. She cries constantly while riding in the car, and she usually ends up pooping in her carrier about 20 minutes in to the trip. Wobbly cat + nervous pooping + car ride = MESS!
I’ve been searching for the solution to this problem for so long, and I am happy to say that I’ve finally found it in Sleepypod! Sleepypod is versatile mobile pet bed – it serves as a bed, a carrier, and a car seat, all in one!
Sleepypod Features
One of the neatest aspects of the Sleepypod is that it comes apart. The dome top of the Sleepypod unzips from the base, and the base can then be used as a pet bed. This allows the pets to get comfortable with the carrier, as they are able to sleep in it and utilize it every day. The base also has plush bedding that lines the inside for ultimate comfort. When it’s time for a wash, the bedding can then be unzipped from the base and thrown in the washing machine!
I believe that one of the reasons Sophie gets so nervous when riding in the car is that her field of vision is limited. She wants so badly to be held and touched, and this just isn’t possible when she’s in a carrier. However, with the Sleepypod’s mesh dome, she is able to see everything. The dome top also has a zipper down the center, which allows for easy access. If she starts getting nervous, I can easily reach in and give her a comforting pet.
Sleepypod Safety
Now to the best part – the safety aspects. The Sleepypod can easily be strapped in to a car with a seat belt, thanks to the straps along the base and the dome top. Once the Sleepypod is strapped in, that baby isn’t going anywhere.
Sophie is comfortable and safely secure in her Sleepypod
The Sleepypod has also been crash tested using the same tests as child safety restraints. The following video demonstrates how well a Sleepypod holds up in a crash.
Comfort and safety, Sleepypod has it all. I have been more than impressed and can’t wait to give our Sleepypod the ultimate travel test – a five hour car ride with Sophie to the BlogPaws Conference. Thanks to Sleepypod, Sophie and I will be traveling in safety, comfort, and style from here on out!

That is such a clever idea. I hope it works well for your Sophie’s – ahem – little problem…

Sleepypods are awesome! I actually have the Atom for my flying trips, but I’d really like one of the round ones – maybe it would make my car trips more tolerable.
Sammy says
Love the looks of the Sleepypod and it’s nice that it’s “multi-purpose” – as a traveling case AND a bed at home so they get totally used to it. I’m sure you’ll see lots of those at Blogpaws!!!!! Love the color too…………..trez chic!
Hugs, Sammy

I have been thinking of getting one of those, but worried about how to clean it ( I have a couple poopers too) . Good to know it is washable.

oooh great review! I have seen those Sleepypods and wondered if they were effective. We are a military family and move a lot, we’ve moved 5 times in the last 6 years so having safe and comfortable traveling solutions is really important for us. I am definitely going to get a few of these!
Rosa @ Cat Lady Confidential says
I only travel with my cat once or twice a year, but when I do it’s always stressful. My cat hates traveling and gets really nervous and accidents have happened making the car a mess. This Sleepypod seems to be a great solution!
Tamago says
Wow, this is so cool! I love that you can secure it to a car with seat belt. I hope Sophie will enjoy the long ride to BlogPaws conference!
I love the photo of Caster in the Sleepypod. He is looking very comfy 🙂

That is really fancy and the color is so happening. We are always searching for a carrier that is safe and allows the “prisoner” see what is happening around then. This was a very informative post.

Great review! We have an Atom but would love one of the rounds one too to double as a bed to enable Truffles to get more comfy in her carrier 🙂

We’ve seen the Sleepypods and think they look pretty cool. We’d love to get one…or two…or three! 🙂
Annabelle says
I keep wanting to get a sleepypod but Annabelle does not like getting into a carrier and I’m afraid she’d get out before I could zip it up! I hope this works well for Sophie.
The Swiss Cats says
We heard about Sleepypod since two years and we luv luv luv it ! We would like to get one, but the price is twice in Switzerland than in the US *sigh*. Purrs

i was very interested to read your review of sleepy pod as I have just bought one for Austin as he has grown out of his old PTU which is old and unsafe! He has yet to show any interest in it, sadly, but this is typically Austin! One thing surprises me is that the mesh top is quite stiff to open and zipping the bottom to the top is not as easy as I’d hoped. However, it is early days!
I hope the trip to Blogpaws is a good one for you and Sophie 🙂
Hugs, Caro x

The Sleepypod looks great for kitty but it appears to be a bit awkward for the human to carry. 🙂
