Sophie - cat in Wacky Paws Pet SlingTo kick off Sophie’s beginnings as a therapy cat, I ordered her a present a couple of weeks ago. Whenever I have taken her out on adventures in the past, she has usually ridden in a cross-body bag that I have*. She just sits in there with her little head poking out and enjoys the ride. With her therapy cat visits we will be on the go a lot, so I thought she needed a proper kitty bag! That’s when I found this pet sling from Wacky Paws.
*Side note: the Wacky Paws slings aren’t available anymore, but this sling is very similar, if not the same.

A little background information about Wacky Paws: Wacky Paws is a company based out of California. They are known for their innovative, stylish, and quality made pet products, specifically those for traveling and active pet owners. They have a line of carriers, strollers, harnesses, backpacks, slings, and food bowls.

*Sophie rides in a hard-shell plastic carrier while in the car. The bag and sling are used only when outside, walking around the pet store, and soon to be used when we are on our therapy cat visits.

Sophie’s sling came in a couple of weeks ago, and let me tell you – this sling is PAWESOME! It comes in all kinds of cool colors, but I ordered the bright green because it matches Sophie’s eyes. It also comes in different sizes too. I ordered the small size, which supposedly fits animals up to 10 pounds. Weighing just a few ounces over 7 pounds, Sophie fits in perfectly. It would be a tight fit for any animal larger than her, so I would recommend the larger size for bigger cats or dogs.

The sling is a simple idea, but it has several neat features. The material is a light weight and breathable mesh, so Sophie doesn’t get hot while riding in it. The bottom of the sling is made more heavy-duty though, so it supports her better and will hold up against those kitty claws! As you can see from the photo, the sling has a zipper, so I just place Sophie into the sling and then zip her up, leaving her head poking through the head hole. Other features include:

1. An adjustable toggle for the neck hole – You can adjust it to be as tight or loose as desired.

2. A clip to attach to a harness, making Sophie more secure and keeping her from being able to slip out.

3. A small pocket – great for storing Sophie’s leash and my phone. It’s a small pocket, so if your leash is extra long and/or thick, you might have a hard time fitting it in.

We put Sophie’s new sling to the test this past weekend. We went on a camping trip with my husband’s parents for a family reunion, and Sophie came with us!

Camping with Wacky Paws Pet Sling

I was able to take her on a walk around the state park, to the family reunion cookout, and to an arts and crafts festival that was going on at the park. She loved every minute of it! She seemed to be very comfortable, and even fell asleep in it a few times. She got so much extra attention from passersby too, which she always enjoys. After being in it for an extended period of time, she would start to get antsy (which made me thankful for the clip that attaches to her harness), but that is understandable.

I love it because I get to take Sophie on adventures that she wouldn’t normally be able to go on. I can put her in her “pocket” (that’s what I like to call it) and just go. Then when we get to a place to stop, I can let her out, hook her up to her leash, and let her explore. The sling is comfortable on my shoulder, and I never got tired of carrying her (luckily she doesn’t weigh much!). Carrying Sophie on the camping trip this past weekend was a very special bonding experience for both of us, and we can’t wait for our next adventure!

it’s cute but I am thinking for Cody it wouldn’t work. He doesn’t enjoy being enclosed and I am afraid he would squirm. It is super cute though!

That’s such a cool idea. Though, honestly, we’re so heavy the mom doesn’t think she could carry us around like that…nor would we stay in there!

What a clever idea! The head peep has always wanted a “take-along cat” but none of us are the right temperament for that. Sophie seems to take everything in stride, though. She’s amazing!

That is really cool! We’re a bit too heavy for Mom and Dad to carry us around town, but that sling is awesome.

That’s a neat idea! I might be pushing that medium size but mom says we might give it a go. Mom loves camping so I’ll be looking forward to your post to see what that is all about.

That’s a really cool kitty bag. I do not think my cats would allow me to carry them around in one of those, though, lol.

My boy is too big (13+ lbs) for the sling, but I think we will give the bookbag a try!

I think this is so cute and looks so easy to carry. I would like to take Astrid out, but her dad says, “No.” We did do it one time and she freaked out and didn’t speak to her dad again for at least a year. I may order a harness. If I don’t try to start walking Giulietta, she is going to need to go on a big time diet. How long will the discount code be available? Sending all our love to all of you. Astrid is sending her love, hugs and 0987654321234567890987654321234569098765432345678987654323456789098765432345678909876543212345678909876543234567898765434567898765434567876545678 kisses to Sampy. p.s. Did he get the photo she sent him yesterday?
